We have a couple of new Portuguese wines in the shops and BWT that I’m quite excited about. Quinta das Maias Tinto and Branco (white) from Dao, just south of the Douro. They’re all organic and we’re doing an introductory offer of £9.99 (they will be £10.99).
‘Red wines from the Dao should always demonstrate a certain succulence from a combination of altitude and granitic soils, but Maias Tinto goes the extra mile. At these even higher vineyards (around 650m), Jaen (Tinta Mencia) captures in the glass delicious crunchy fruit in this medium bodied wine.’ ‘Clear ruby colour, brilliant, with an intense fruit bouquet reminding of wild blackberries and cassis. On the palate it is very powerful but with soft tannins and a long finish.’
‘Malvasia dominated dry white from this registered organic, high altitude estate. Citric, clear and brilliant, with floral notes of lime and lemon. On the palate it is fresh, elegant and structured, in the classic line of the Dão white wines.’
