Work With Us
Ben’s Farm Shop is a family-run business employing nearly one hundred local people, many of whom have been with us for years. We have two farm shops, two town shops, a ‘smokehouse’ BBQ shack, a butchery, a farm shop kitchen and central office.
Good food is our passion and Ben’s Farm Shops are at the heart of the region’s food web, connecting local farmers, producers and growers with customers. Over 60% of the products we sell are from Devon; most are certified organic or ‘no-spray’ and everything is responsibly or sustainably sourced.
We’re as committed to our staff as we are to good food and everyone who works at Ben’s Farm Shop soon feels like part of an extended family. We strive to create excellent, friendly working environments, pay fair wages and provide plentiful opportunities to develop and learn.
We want to work with people who have a passion for good food, enjoy meeting and helping customers and are resourceful and willing to learn.

Butchery
Butchery
We started making our own sausages back in 1983 and with traditional butcher’s counters in our Exeter, Yealmpton and Staverton shops, the butchery has always been at the heart of what we do. We buy whole animals from local farmers who care about the way their animals are raised, and pay them a fair price. Our butchers are highly skilled and incredibly knowledgeable people and part of the job is helping customers choose the right cut. You don’t necessarily need to be a qualified butcher to work with us – if you’ve got the passion, aptitude and are keen to learn, we offer on-the-job training with our master butchers.
Farm Shop
Farm Shop
Our larger farm shops are located at Staverton and Yealmpton, with smaller town stores on Magdelene Road in Exeter and Totnes High Street. The larger shops comprise of a butcher, delicatessen, green grocer, provisioner and wine merchant and our town stores offer a smaller rage of the most popular products. We’re proud of the reputation we’ve grown for being a central part of our communities and we often know our customers by name. Even though each store has its own quirks and identity, they all have the feel of a friendly local farm shop where staff are more than happy to have a natter with customers or help them with their shop. Working in the farm shops is busy and varied and you’ll soon feel part of a friendly, welcoming team.
Farm Shop Kitchen
Farm Shop Kitchen
Located near our Staverton shop, the Farm Shop Kitchen is where we produce all of the Ben’s Farm Shop own-brand food. We source ingredients from local suppliers and make over 320 different products, including our own pies, pasties, soups, sauces, chutneys, preserves and ice-cream. We also cut cheeses and cure and slice cooked meats for the shops. Everything we make is exclusively for the farm shops, Ben’s Wine and Tapas and Harry’s Smokehouse. It’s anything but a production line – we make things as you would in your kitchen at home, just on a bigger scale. Many of the Farm Shop Kitchen team have been working with us for years. Almost everyone inputs into the development of new product lines your ideas and improvements are always welcomed.
Hospitality
Hospitality
The Staverton and Yealmpton farm shops have thriving cafes and we also have Harry Smokehouse, a seasonal BBQ shack next to the Staverton store. Each place has its own unique feel, but they all centre around excellent food and great service. There’s plenty of opportunities to learn about the food and wine we serve, including wine tastings and training sessions. Some of our hospitality team move to other areas of the business as their passion for the products grows, so there are always opportunities to progress and make your mark.
The Hole Farm Office
The Hole Farm Office
The office building used to be the old piggery, located at Hole Farm, just opposite our Staverton Shop. It’s a bustling place with lots of comings and goings, muddy boots, dogs and a dedicated team of people keeping the cogs of Ben’s Farm Shop well oiled. It’s here you’ll find our finance, operations, HR and marketing team. It’s not the most conventional place to work, but that’s why we love it!
