Courgettes and lettuce might have been suffering but the more traditional seasonal harvest of Valencian citrus is coming through thick and fast. Mr Veg (Steve) in the shop found a new supplier/farmer in Valencia and we’ve been getting some wonderful, traditional variety, ‘straight from the tree’, lemons, clementines, oranges and grapefruit straight from the farm so it really is grove-fresh. It’s literally, picked to order and sent, ungraded, straight to us. The lemons come in all shapes and sizes but they’re unimaginably zesty compared with their long-life, cold stored counterparts and I wish the clementine (du Nules) had been around at Christmas.
