It’s the largest island in the Mediterranean and offers a stunning range of indigenous grape varieties combined with both traditional and innovative winemaking. The climate and terroir are perfect for making organic wine and the wines are fantastic value. What more could you ask for! All the wines come from Stefano Girelli, a northern Italian who fell in love with the island and southern lifestyle and has been making organic wines in Vittoria (Santa Tresa and Cortese) and Marsala for thirty years. Fedele Pinot Grigio / Catarratto; 60% Catarratto / 40% Pinot Grigio blend making an extremely drinkable, everyday wine that offers intense aromas of both citrus and tropical fruit flavours. Perfect with seafood or as an aperitif. Very moreish so keep a couple of bottles in the fridge at all times. Il Folle Grillo; Made from grapes grown by the sea in Western Sicily. Fresh, bright and easy drinking. Subtle nose with tropical fruit and citrus flavours on the palate. Good by itself or with light vegetable dishes and seafood Santa Tresa Grillo Viogner Rina Ianca; Rina Ianca translates as “white sand” in Sicilian. An unusual blend of 70% indigenous Grillo, bringing freshness and minerality, and 30% Viognier which adds intyensity and complexity; an innovative “forward-thinking” wine. “A rather pretty apple-pie nose, even custardy, but in a creamy-custard-fruit rather than a vanilla-oak-custard kind of way. Fresh pie apples and lemon with generous and very well-balanced acidity. Tiny bit herbal on the finish. Altogether complete. Properly delicious.” (Jancis Robinson, 2014 vintage 16.5/20) Fedele Nero d’Avola; Sicily's number one red grape variety, Nero d'Avola is indigenous to the island. Surprisingly classy structure, yet has soft tannins and is very approachable. Packed with red berry fruit flavours, it is ideal with barbecued meat and tomato based pasta sauces. Cortese Nostru Nerello Mascalese Terre Siciliane; Nerello Mascalese is responsible for most of the ultra-mineral, volcanic wines from Mount Etna. This has more depth of colour and aroma than you usually find but a light oaking brings everything together with distinct notes of spice and leather on the nose and palate combining with the fleshy black and red cherry fruit. Feudo di Santa Tresa Frappato Sicilia IGT; Frappato, with its delicious strawberry and cherry flavours is fast becoming the next big thing. No tannins to speak of - just a deliciously refreshing juice with a smidgeon of aniseed on the end. Good served lightly chilled with spicy food or oily fish such as tuna, mackerel or sardines. All organic - £49 (£57.86 at individual bottle prices)
