VITTORIA, SICILY A surprising and serious style from Sicily that's reminiscent of a good Chablis in texture and weight. A field blend of Catarratto and Grillo, co-fermented on their skins in old Slavonian oak 'botti' to add structure and phenolics. A golden feast of tropical fruit, slightly smoky, with a mineral edge and sumptuous length. Unusually, the oak really works. A lovely wine. Azienda Agricola Cortese, was acquired by neighbour Stefano Girelli, of Feudo de Santa Tresa, in 2016 after six years of negotiation.  The estate has always been farmed organically, but was in a terrible state of decay, with both vineyards and winery in need of a great deal of maintenance. Four years later, after considerable investment, Stefano is making and innovative range of wines, exclusively from indigenous Sicilian grape varieties. “The aim is simple and carries on the ethos of the estate,” he continues, “To produce wines as naturally as possible, using organic grapes and making interesting, typical, quality wines following ancient Sicilian traditionswhich are further improved by modern methods.”
